Hot or engine running refuelling is conducted during aircraft operations when the additional time taken
for normal refuelling may compromise an operation. Only helicopters are approved for hot refuelling.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority prohibits hot refuelling of fixed wing aircraft.
During the fire season, the SAU trains and coordinates several hot refuelling crews located across the state.
Each crew is equipped with a dedicated hot refuelling truck, which can quickly relocate to support helicopter operations.
